Self-Portrait

Did this portrait to prove to myself that I could still paint in colour. Prior to this one, I'd toiled for hours on a coloured portrait of myself that just wasn't working. (That comment I made on "Yue Yee the Red Cap Oranda" Post about battles between me and the paint rings so true for that failed painting.)

My only disappointment in this painting is my Dad's comment on how he thought the top half looked like Robert Pattinson in Twilight before I'd finished it. *Shudders violently*
Let's just say I'm glad he told me after I'd already fixed the majority of the problem. Come on! I like my new hair cut, and it's so cruel to compare me to HIM! (Sorry, but I'm not a fan.)

Self-Portrait: Blue Period?

Using blue was originally supposed to be the under-painting of a full-coloured portrait. Getting the proportions down and all. Turned out better than I thought, though, and decided to keep it that way.

The rough stages of a painting is typically my favorite part of painting a piece; everything is still raw and loose, and I'm not afraid to get a little ugly.

Phthalocyanine Blue is such a yummy colour, but a little hard to use (one of those wierd-to-mix paints). Can't pass up the chance to splatter it about in a painting every once in a while :)

Now I just got to work on my face... Something less fierce/stunned, and..."bunny"-like, according to my sister. Can I help it if my face just so happens to be comfortable in that pose??

Yue Yee the Red Cap Oranda

After digital painting for so long, it's a little tough to go back to traditional painting.

I understand colour, but I find it hard to understand acrylics (at least the brand I'm using). The colour mixes in this weird way, and it's a real battle; it's Me vs. The Paint, and the finished piece is our battle field.

I'd like to think I conquer the paint most of the time. But the occasional times that I lose...definitely not a pretty sight and should never see the light of day.

Self-Portrait

Did this back in my 2nd year at Sheridan (?). I remember I had to cover the window so I could create my own constant lighting. It was due on a Monday, and I'd started it on the Friday prior (I think?). So many projects were due at the time. Unfortunately, my first attempt at the assignment wasn't successful, since, in addition to being a Self-Portrait, it had to have one hand included as well, and with a full-frontal view, it just didn't work well. So I scrapped that after working on it for a night, and came up with this one.

One day I'll have to get a nice BIG scanner. Paintings are such a pain to photograph, and my current scanner is so small (basically sized to scan typical documents), and since it's so old, I think it must be permanently dusty.
